The “I Got Caught Wearing My Life Jacket” Campaign

What Is the Campaign?

The "I Got Caught Wearing My Life Jacket" campaign is an initiative designed to promote safety on the water. As part of this program, Wildlife Agents across Louisiana reward boaters and anglers who prioritize safety by wearing their life jackets.

It’s a fun and positive way to encourage responsible behavior while on the water, ultimately saving lives and fostering a culture of safety in our outdoor communities

How It Works

Wildlife Agents patrol Louisiana’s waterways, keeping an eye out for individuals who are setting an example by wearing their life jackets. These individuals are “caught” in the act of being safe and rewarded with a T-shirt or other merchandise that celebrates their commitment to water safety.

Step 1: Wildlife Agents patrol Louisiana’s waterways.

Step 2: Agents look for individuals wearing life jackets.

Step 3: Safe boaters are “caught” and rewarded with campaign merchandise like T-shirts or caps.

Every T-shirt given is a badge of honor for prioritizing safety.

Why It Matters

In Louisiana, our waterways are a cornerstone of our outdoor culture. From fishing and boating to hunting in our marshes, safety is a top priority.

Wearing a life jacket dramatically increases survival rates in water accidents, and this campaign ensures more families enjoy their time on the water safely.

This campaign ensures:

  • Families stay safe while enjoying fishing, boating, and hunting.
  • Communities adopt safety-first attitudes on the water.
  • Survival rates increase through simple, proactive measures.
